Maternity photography is one of my greatest joys. I believe every woman deserves beautiful portraits of her pregnancy. Images to treasure as the years pass and to share with your child as they grow.

My own children adore the photographs of my growing belly, tracing the moments before they arrived. I’m certain your baby will feel that same wonder one day too.

However, I know many women feel nervous in front of the camera. But you are never awkward — not even for a moment.. You simply need someone who helps you feel safe, seen, and beautifully yourself. That’s what I’m here for. I’ll guide you gently, help you relax, and capture the quiet beauty of this extraordinary chapter.

Pregnancy is such a beautiful, hope-filled chapter. There is no right or wrong way to document this journey. That’s why we’ll create a maternity session that feels true to you. You’ll leave with heartfelt images your family will treasure forever.

The Beautiful Bairns Photography studio is filled with beautiful dresses, delicate accessories, and flowing silks designed to flatter your changing body. Whether your style is bold or understated, we’ll create timeless portraits that celebrate your bump beautifully.

Conveniently located in Chesser, the studio is easily accessible for expectant mums across Edinburgh — whether you’re coming from Morningside, Stockbridge, Corstorphine, Leith, Portobello or Davidson Mains.

Before your maternity photoshoot

You do not need to know how to pose!

I understand that being in front of the camera can feel daunting. Believe me, I’m no natural model myself! I still chose to have two maternity sessions when I was pregnant with my youngest. Those images are now some of my most treasured memories My youngest is now nine, and he still loves seeing those photographs. They remind me how fleeting and precious these days are

Can siblings be part of the maternity photoshoot?

Including partners and siblings in your maternity session

Including your little ones in a maternity session can make the experience even more magical.

Often, their excitement and gentle touches help tell the story of your growing family. Whether they cuddle your bump or sit quietly beside you, these images capture the love and anticipation siblings bring.

Can my partner come to the maternity photoshoot?

Absolutely — partners are always welcome to be part of your maternity session.

This is a special, exciting chapter for both of you, and having them close adds warmth, love, and connection to your images.

To help everyone feel comfortable, I’m happy to offer guidance on clothing choices so your partner feels comfortable and confident.

If your partner is female, they’re also welcome to use the studio wardrobe so everyone feels comfortable and beautifully styled.

What should I wear for my maternity photoshoot?

Choosing what to wear for your maternity session should feel joyful, not stressful.

I have a carefully chosen collection of gowns, fabrics, and accessories designed to flatter your changing body

That means whether you prefer natural textures or elegant flowing styles, every piece is chosen to help you feel confident and beautiful.

After your maternity photoshoot

Around a week after your session, we’ll arrange a relaxed viewing appointment so you can see your images for the first time.

Every photograph will be lovingly and expertly retouched, presented in a beautiful slideshow for you.

From there, we’ll choose images and wall art that suit your home and budget.

Your digital images will be ready to take home on the day of your appointment, while printed products can be shipped directly to your door — or, if you prefer, collected from the studio at a time that suits you.

When is best for maternity photography?

Personally, I usually recommend booking from around 28 weeks onwards. Your bump will be beautifully visible, and you’ll still feel comfortable during the session.

If you’re expecting twins or multiples, I suggest scheduling a little earlier, around 24–30 weeks, so you feel mobile and at ease during your session.

Whenever you book, we’ll enjoy a relaxed session over a hot cup of tea, and I’ll help you feel calm, confident, and celebrated.

Do I need to bring anything?

For your maternity session, it’s lovely to bring a few personal touches that make the experience feel truly yours.

A favourite outfit, meaningful jewellery, or a special prop can make your images feel even more personal.

A makeup bag for quick touch-ups can help you feel refreshed between looks, and anything that makes you feel comfortable and confident is always welcome.

Above all, bring yourself and your beautiful bump. Together, we’ll capture this chapter in a relaxed and authentic way.

Booking your Edinburgh maternity photoshoot couldn’t be simpler. A session fee of £50 is payable at the time of booking to reserve your date — and that’s honestly all you need to think about for now.

Once booked, you’ll receive a personalised session guide to help you feel prepared, relaxed and confident ahead of your maternity photoshoot. Optional access to my client closet and personalised styling advice to help you feel comfortable and confident.

There’s no pressure to choose your collection on the day. Instead, around a week after your maternity session, we’ll schedule a relaxed viewing appointment at the Beautiful Bairns studio in Chesser, Edinburgh — a truly special moment to see your portraits for the very first time.

All of your images will be lovingly retouched and presented in a beautiful slideshow, and together we’ll create the perfect collection to suit your home and your budget. From stunning wall art to elegant keepsakes, I’ll help you find the pieces that will honour this extraordinary chapter of your life for years to come.
