Edinburgh Newborn Photography: Why You Must Take Family Portraits At Your Newborn Session
Why I believe you need Family Portraits as part of your newborn session:
I have so many clients that come to a newborn session too tired to even think about having their own portraits taken and so opt out on having them taken. I always encourage my clients to be in images, even if they are tired and have no makeup on so that we capture these first memories with your baby. Your baby will never be this small again!
How To Prepare For Your Newborn Session Family Portraits:
If you haven’t had time to get ready before leaving for the studio that is not a problem. Mums you can bring your makeup or hair products and get ready in the toilet while I settle baby to sleep. I always do family portraits at the start of my newborn sessions so that once these photos have been taken you can relax and watch me pose baby. Even if you feel like you don’t look your best I genuinely believe your baby wont care! Think of these family portraits as a family heirloom to be passed down for generations. Your children will cherish them forever and even more so when you are gone. Your first family photo is something truly special indeed!
What To Wear For Your Newborn Session Family Portraits:
I always recommend wearing something simple and classic for your newborn session family portraits. I recommend choosing either white or a dark neutral such as black/navy or dark grey and I recommend no patterns or logos. You don’t want to look at the images in 10 years time and think, “what was I wearing?” These images are all about the love and connection you have as new parents and your precious new baby. By keeping clothing simple this prevents any distractions.
Hate Having Your Picture Taken? How Not To Feel Awkward:
I get it, I truly do. You might be shocked to hear this but almost all photographers HATE having their photos taken! It’s often how we ended up behind the camera instead of in front! So please know that I do understand how you feel. I don’t expect you to behave like a supermodel! If parents feel a little awkward in front of the camera, I encourage them to look at their baby. This usually makes new parents relax and feel more at ease as all you have to do is gaze at that gorgeous baby of yours while I capture the love you have for them!
